Peter Pan traces back to J. M. Barrie's 1904 play and his 1911 novel Peter and Wendy, about a boy who refuses to grow up and the Darling children he draws into Neverland alongside pirates, fairies, and Captain Hook. Great Ormond Street Hospital, which has held the rights to Barrie's characters since 1929, later commissioned an official continuation, Geraldine McCaughrean's Peter Pan in Scarlet (2006), picking up the same characters decades on. Other Peter Pan books include unrelated film novelizations and other tie-ins.
