The Federal Witch

Magic is on the federal payroll. Werewolves file paperwork, vampires hold press conferences, and the Bureau keeps a desk for the things that go bump in the night — which is where Agatha Blackmore lands: the runt of a dynasty of witches, born (as far as anyone can tell) without a single spell to her name. What she has instead is a sidearm, a stubborn streak, and a miniature unicorn who is quite certain he runs the place. This is a modern America where the supernatural came out into the open, and somebody had to be sworn in to police it. The Federal Witch is the spine — Agatha's climb from magicless family embarrassment to special agent with a badge and a caseload. But the world sprawls outward across a shelf of companion series: Standard of Honor, Familiar Magic, The Fairy Locket, The Fairy of Salem and Wings of Justice pick up other agents, the wisecracking familiars themselves, and the older fae history running underneath it all. Mostly the work of T. S. Paul, with Taki Drake and Bradford Bates writing alongside him, it is indie urban fantasy at full tilt — dozens of short, fast books released quickly, more interested in momentum and company than in tidy shelving. The register stays light and quippy: badge-and-glamour procedural crossed with found-family comedy, closer to a grin than a growl. Threats get punched, the banter never stops, and the unicorn steals every scene he can reach. Newcomers should start with the first Federal Witch book and read on in publication order; the spin-offs branch off comfortably once Agatha's world is already under your feet.
