In this alternate-history story the murder of King Duncan at Castle Dunsinane occurs not in the 1500s but the late 1800s. The present king of Nova Alba, the one-time Thane of Cawdor, calls upon Sherlock Holmes to prove his innocence, but a newly written play presents him as the murderer.
