With King Trent overdue from a trade mission to Mundania, his young regent Dor must leave the throne in shakier hands and set out to find him. The trail leads to Centaur Isle, where the centaurs' contempt for magical talent complicates Dor's search for a magician able to open a path into the talent-starved mundane world. It is the fourth Xanth novel, moving Dor from apprentice-king to unlikely hero.
