King Trystan of Rock Castle and his daughter Viviette are hosting a feast in honor of King Anzor and Queen Tamar of Redwood when Anzor is suddenly poisoned and dies. Jaghar, the Spymaster for King Trystan, is tasked with discovering not only who did the poisoning but also who ordered it. Was it someone from Redwood or was it possibly an assassin sent by the Empress of the Taavi Empire, who has plans to conquer all of the Five Kingdoms? He is helped in his investigation by Princess Viviette, his secret lover. Will they be able to find the assassin and prevent open warfare with the Taavi Empire?
