As the flooded world's waters recede, newly fertile land opens for colonization—and a new generation of Seekers must be tested before they're allowed to claim it. Extant opens the Beyond the Thaw arc of the Thaw Chronicles, following these Seekers as they learn that qualifying for the Newlands demands more than the kindness the old Bound system once rewarded. What it now takes to pass is colder, and harder to predict.
