Born in an English snowstorm in February 1910, Ursula Todd dies in infancy, and is born again, and dies again, and again, each time living a little further into a life reshaped by some small, different choice. As the loops carry her through a childhood overshadowed by the coming of the First World War and then the 1918 flu, a strange, half-formed sense of having lived through it all before starts to surface in her, one she can't quite explain but increasingly can't ignore. Kate Atkinson builds a life, and a century, out of all its unlived versions.
