Fulfilling the dream of a lifetime, Melkin Womper is apprenticed to a master painter, Ambrosius Blenk. Mel is overawed by the master's richly coloured and vividly detailed paintings. Mel finds himself caught in a power struggle that involves stepping through paintings where the bizarre is commonplace and all logic is irrelevant.
