Miss Hickory

Borderline spec-fic. Ann's doll has an applewood twig as a body and a hickory nut for a head. When Ann leaves for the winter she comes alive and has several adventures. On her return, Ann sees the effects of the actions of her magical doll, but does not realize that her doll has caused those effects.
