By the year 3038 "genhants" (Genetically Enhanced Humans with a two additional chromosome) are the ruling class. Genetic engineering is strictly regulated and only selected people with "great minds" may be cloned. On a rock-climbing outing thirteen-year-old Darci runs across another another girl who is identical to herself. This leads Darci to discover that she herself has been illegally cloned and that her parents are active in an underground movement to save the human race from genhant technology. Darci also knows that if the authorities become aware of this cloning that it will be an automatic death sentence for both her and her clone.
