The Drawing of the Three (excerpt)

Having reached the edge of the Western Sea, Roland loses fingers and a toe to the pinching, man-sized 'lobstrosities' that hunt the tideline at dusk, then finds three mysterious doors standing alone on the beach, each one opening onto a different stretch of an entirely different world.
