This novella begins in June of 1778. Michael Murray, nephew of Jamie Frazer, escorts Jamie's step-daughter Joan MacKimmie to Paris to enter a convent. In Paris they encounter various old friends and enemies of Claire Frazer, including Mother Hildegarde, Master Raymond and the Comte de St. Germain.
