The Three-Minute Universe

The Sackers are a species every Federation member finds physically repellent on sight, which hasn't stopped them from committing genocide to steal an instrument capable of tearing space itself open. When they use it, a second universe starts bleeding through the wound into the crew's own reality, and Kirk has three minutes' worth of margin, not much more, to shut it before both universes come apart.
