Adam Rex

Adam Rex (born 1973) is an American author and illustrator from Tucson, Arizona, who moves fluidly between picture books, middle-grade fiction, and comic prose. He first drew wide notice with the picture book Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich (2006), a New York Times bestseller, and followed it with the novel The True Meaning of Smekday (2007), an alien-invasion comedy narrated by a girl and her alien companion that DreamWorks adapted into the animated film Home (2015). His other fiction includes Fat Vampire (2010), a wry look at eternal teenage undeath, and the Cold Cereal trilogy (2012-2014), mixing cereal-mascot folklore with contemporary fantasy. Rex studied fine art at the University of Arizona and has illustrated cards for Magic: The Gathering alongside his book work. He won the National Cartoonists Society's 2017 award for book illustration.
