Alaya Dawn Johnson

Alaya Dawn Johnson (born 1982) is an American writer of science fiction and fantasy from Washington, D.C., whose work moves fluidly between YA and adult fiction. She began with the Polynesian-inspired fantasy duology Racing the Dark and The Burning City, part of her Spirit Binders series, then introduced the vampire-suffragette heroine Zephyr Hollis in an alternate 1920s New York in Moonshine and Wicked City. Her YA cyberpunk novel The Summer Prince (2013) was longlisted for the National Book Award, and Love Is the Drug won the Andre Norton Award for Best Young Adult Novel. Her adult fantasy Trouble the Saints won the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel, and she has since published Tremontaine serial fiction and the novel The Library of Broken Worlds.
