b. 1952 · Louisville, Kentucky, USA

Michael Williams is an American fantasy author born in 1952 who has spent his career based in Louisville, Kentucky. After co-founding the game company Pacesetter in 1984 following layoffs from TSR, he published his debut novel, Weasel's Luck, in 1988, launching a long association with the shared-world Dragonlance setting; his Dragonlance novels include Galen Beknighted and Before the Mask. Beyond licensed fiction, Williams has written original fantasy across several linked cycles, notably the From Thief to King trilogy and the literary, mystery-tinged City Quartet, along with the two-book Arcady series. His original work is often noted for a more introspective, stylistically ambitious take on epic fantasy than typical franchise tie-ins. His most recent novel, Tattered Men, appeared in 2019.
