Mildred Downey Broxon

Mildred Downey Broxon is an American author of science fiction and fantasy, born June 7, 1944, in Atlanta, Georgia. She studied psychology and worked as a psychiatric nurse and as an assistant teacher for people with intellectual disabilities before attending the 1972 Clarion Workshop for new SF and fantasy writers. Her debut short story, 'Asclepius Has Paws,' appeared in 1973, and her first novel, published under the pseudonym Sigfriour Skaldaspillir, retold H. Rider Haggard's Eric Brighteyes from the antagonist's point of view. With Poul Anderson she co-wrote The Demon of Scattery (1979), and her best-known solo novel, Too Long a Sacrifice (1981), drawing on Irish myth and the Troubles, was praised by Anne McCaffrey, Anderson, and Joan D. Vinge. Between 1973 and 1989 she published three novels and around twenty short stories, several translated into German.
