Nathan Lowell

Nathan Lowell is an American science-fiction author who first reached readers by podcasting his novels rather than through traditional publishing. Drawing on his own service in the United States Coast Guard, he created The Golden Age of the Solar Clipper, a long-running space-opera saga -- including the Trader, Smuggler's, and Seeker's Tales -- following ordinary crew members making a living aboard merchant starships rather than a chosen hero or dashing captain. He completed the first novel, Quarter Share, in 2007 and released it through Podiobooks.com before it reached print. Lowell, who grew up in coastal Maine and holds a doctorate in educational technology, also writes the fantasy Tanyth Fairport Adventures. He returned to writing with the mid-2000s podcast-fiction boom after decades away from it, becoming one of its most prolific voices.
