Steven R. Boyett

Steven R. Boyett is an American writer born in 1960 in Atlanta, Georgia, who sold his debut novel Ariel at the age of twenty-one. The book, about a boy and his unicorn navigating a world where technology has stopped working and magic has returned, became a cult favorite, and Boyett returned to its setting decades later with the sequel Elegy Beach. His other fiction includes Mortality Bridge, a jazz-inflected trip through the underworld that won the Emperor Norton Award, and the collaborative novel Fata Morgana, written with artist Ken Mitchroney. Beyond novels, Boyett has worked as a screenwriter, contributing to Toy Story 2, and built a parallel career as an electronic dance music DJ, creating the long-running Podrunner exercise-music podcast series. He has also taught fiction writing at UCLA Extension.
