Series
Lazarus Long
Robert A. Heinlein · 6 novels · 4 short stories · 1958–2020
Lazarus Long is the recurring protagonist of a loose sequence of Robert A. Heinlein novels, beginning with Methuselah's Children (1958) and continuing through Time Enough for Love, The Number of the Beast, The Cat Who Walks Through Walls, and To Sail Beyond the Sunset, with the posthumously assembled The Pursuit of the Pankera joining the group decades later. Born in 1912 into a multi-generation longevity-breeding program, Long survives for over two thousand years through periodic rejuvenation, and the later novels follow him through increasingly unconventional adventures across time and alternate realities. The books were written independently across more than sixty years rather than as a planned series.
