Orbitsville
Bob Shaw · 3 novels · 1975–1990
Bob Shaw's trilogy opens with the discovery of Orbitsville, a Dyson-sphere-like megastructure enclosing a star and offering more habitable inner surface than all of Earth's history could use, prompting a slow-motion exodus from a crowded, exhausted homeworld. Orbitsville Departure and Orbitsville Judgement widen into the political fallout and the deeper mystery of who built the sphere and why. It is hard SF organized around the sheer, incomprehensible scale of its central artifact rather than character-driven drama.
