Christopher Stasheff's Rod Gallowglass novels follow an interstellar secret agent stranded on Gramarye, a lost-colony planet where the descendants of the original settlers' genetic engineering have produced witches, werewolves and other 'magic' that Rod initially assumes is superstition covering advanced technology. Beginning with The Warlock in Spite of Himself, the long-running series follows Rod's transformation from skeptical agent to accepted lord of Gramarye as he marries into the local nobility and raises a family with their own budding gifts. It mixes science-fantasy world-building with a broad comic tone across more than a dozen books.
