Anadidd'na
Chloe Garner · 4 series · 25 novels · 2 novellas · 1 novelette · 1 short story · 1 collection · 2014–2023
Nobody signs up for it. The ghosts and the gremlins, the witches, the things that climb up out of Hell wearing a borrowed face — somebody has to stand between all that and the rest of us, and in Anadidd'na that somebody is usually just a person who happened to be paying attention. Angels and demons are real here, Heaven and Hell keep their old accounts, and the frontline is a diner booth, a highway at three in the morning, a walk-up apartment in a city that never knows how close it came. Chloe Garner tells it across four braided series. Sam and Sam rides shotgun with a pair of supernatural hunters and the evasive Samantha as roadside cases open onto a far larger game. School of Magic Survival follows Valerie, newly woken to power and courted by both sides of a war she never asked to join. The Book of Carter turns to Aspen Carter — Samantha's tutor in all things demonic — keeping New York's demons in something like order, one wry novella at a time. Gypsy Queen travels with the Makkai and their crystal magic, standing guard over humankind wherever the road runs. The register is what Garner calls noblebright: a dark world, yes, but lit by people who choose the decent thing when nobody is watching and nobody made them. Newcomers should start with Sam and Sam, where the hunts are smallest and the world opens widest; the strands share characters and stakes rather than a locked sequence, so you can follow whichever voice you like best from there.
