Artificial Condition

Murderbot — the security unit that hacked its own governor module and just wants to be left alone with its downloaded soap operas — leaves Preservation Station and heads back to the mining facility where, years earlier, it apparently massacred a client's entire team. It hitches a ride with a transport ship's AI sharp enough to become an unlikely ally, and starts picking through the wreckage of a memory it deliberately buried.
