Wikipedia: Foundation is the first novel in Isaac Asimov's Foundation Trilogy (later expanded into The Foundation Series). Foundation is a fixup of five interrelated short stories, first published as a single book by Gnome Press in 1951. Collectively they tell the story of the Foundation, an institute to preserve the best of galactic civilization after the collapse of the Galactic Empire. Four of these stories were originally published in a different form under different titles and a framing story, "The Psychohistorians" was added. The four sections of the fixup are: "The Encyclopedists" based on "Foundation" (1942) "The Mayors" based on "Bridle and Saddle" (1942) "The Traders" based on "The Wedge" (1944) "The Merchant Princes" based on "The Big and the Little" (1944) See {{S|Foundation (Original Stories)}}.
