An astrophysicist who is mortally wounded by an assassin recovers due to nanobots in his body but has lost most of his memory. He discovers he is part of a project to monitor the impending explosion of Betelgeuse into a supernova, but finds out that the assassination attempt is part of a complex secret struggle between differing factions who have plans of their own for the project.
