When the Enterprise encounters a rogue planet with unusual properties, numerous devices begin to malfunction, trapping the away team investigating the planet without communication to the ship. Kirk, Spock, McCoy and others of the crew must confront powerful new species and unforeseen dangers, for the survival of not just themselves, but all mankind.
