Set between Ender in Exile and Speaker for the Dead, this novella sends twenty-five-year-old Andrew Ender Wiggin and his sister Valentine to the colony world of Catalunya to investigate the murder of a scientist who was trying to prove that the planet's wolf-like native llops are intelligent. Ender has to untangle who killed Kenneth Argon and why, in a story that turns the question of colonization itself into the real crime scene.
