The Prometheus Design

On a diplomatic call to the peaceful Helvans, the Enterprise crew instead finds a world consumed by riots, torture, and unexplained violence. Kirk is stripped of command by hallucinations that seem engineered from outside his own mind, and Spock has to decide how far to go running the ship while some unseen intelligence tests just how much control it can take from a starship crew without firing a shot.
