Set in the years between the Twig and Rook trilogies, this Edge Chronicles story follows Keris Barkwater, later mother to Rook Barkwater, on an adventure of her own before her son's story begins. Collected in the anthology The Lost Barkscrolls, it gives a formative generation of the saga's world room the main quartets don't have. A bridge story linking two eras of Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell's saga.
