Kara Dalkey

Kara Dalkey (born 1953) is an American author of young adult fiction and historical fantasy, born in Los Angeles. A member of the Minneapolis-based writing group the Scribblies alongside Emma Bull, Will Shetterly, and Pamela Dean, she published early short fiction in the shared-world Liavek anthologies. Much of her work draws on Japanese history and myth, including the Mitsuko duology (Little Sister, The Heavenward Path) and the historical novel Genpei, while her Water Trilogy blends the Atlantis myth with Arthurian legend. She has also written the Sagamore fantasy novels, the contemporary fantasy Steel Rose, and short fiction for the Firebirds anthologies and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer tie-in line; The Nightingale and The Heavenward Path were both nominated for the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award.
