Cormac Mac Art follows a Gaelic warrior and reaver in the chaotic centuries after Rome's fall, moving between Ireland, Britain, and Scandinavia as a mercenary and pirate entangled with Norse raiders, dark sorcery, and the last embers of vanishing older civilizations. Robert E. Howard wrote the earliest stories before his death, and Andrew J. Offutt later completed unfinished fragments and added new novels to round out the sequence. It is sword-and-sorcery in the same vein as Howard's Conan, set in an early-medieval rather than invented prehistoric world.
