Orson Scott Card · 6 novels · 4 novelettes · 2 short stories · 2 collections · 1977–2021
Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game (1985, expanded from his 1977 novella) follows child prodigy Andrew "Ender" Wiggin as he is recruited into a military training program built to prepare Earth's defenses for an anticipated third war against an insectoid alien species known as the Formics. The saga continues years later through Speaker for the Dead and Xenocide, following an older Ender as he confronts the moral weight of his role in that earlier conflict, and concludes the core arc in Children of the Mind, with Ender in Exile filling in the years between the first two books. Set within the wider Ender's Game universe, the series shifts from military coming-of-age story to slower, more philosophical science fiction as it progresses.

✦ Curated by the Loreful team
This route follows Ender's life in the order it happens rather than the order the books appeared. Ender in Exile moves up to second: published more than two decades after Speaker for the Dead, it covers the years directly after Ender's Game and bridges into everything that follows. The four later novels keep their published sequence. The collections around the novels are left out, and of the shorter pieces only Investment Counselor is here, in the gap where Ender meets Jane; the six novels carry the story.
