The Fuzzy sequence begins with H. Beam Piper's Little Fuzzy (1962, a Hugo Award nominee), about the discovery of a small, intelligent species on a frontier planet and the legal fight over whether they count as sentient beings; Piper continued the story in his own sequel before his death, and later writers, including William Tuning and John F. Carr, added further novels to the timeline. John Scalzi revisited the premise from scratch in his 2011 novel Fuzzy Nation, an acknowledged reboot of Piper's original rather than a continuation of it.
