There is a war older than Earth, and it is fought by machines that are alive. On the dying metal world of Cybertron, two factions have hammered at each other across the ages: the Autobots, who guard freedom, and the Decepticons, who would rule it — sentient robots who fold their bodies down into cars, jets, and beasts, so that any engine on any street might, in a heartbeat, stand up and choose a side. When the war reaches our planet, the fight for Cybertron becomes the fight for us. The books gathered here are the prose face of that endless conflict: a licensed, many-handed shelf that runs bright and fast and mostly toward younger readers. Alan Dean Foster and others novelize the live-action films, on through Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts; tie-ins carry the animated continuities — the preschool heroics of Rescue Bots, the newer EarthSpark, the two eras of Robots in Disguise — into early readers and chapter books. Dave Morris's Adventure Game Books hand you the controls to pick an Autobot's next move, while The Official History of the War for Cybertron plays chronicler and lays the lore out straight. These are separate continuities, not one timeline — each cartoon and film spins its own version of the same great war. What holds it all together is a clarity most sprawling worlds abandon: Optimus Prime's stubborn decency set against Megatron's hunger, and transformation itself as the promise that a thing can become more than it looks. There is no single reading order; every branch is its own front. Youngest readers start with Rescue Bots or EarthSpark. Came for the films? Take a novelization matched to the one you know. And if you'd rather drive than watch, an Adventure Game Book puts the wheel in your hands. Roll out.

47 works not in this order

Three self-contained prose lines that never connect, each read in its own order. The live-action film novelizations with their two bridging prequel novels come first as the longest continuous thread; the Aligned-continuity trilogy — Exodus, Exiles, Retribution — tells the Cybertron civil war and the exodus that follows; the 2003–04 trilogy that opens with Hardwired stands on its own. The cartoon tie-ins, children's readers and gamebooks stay off the route.
