J. R. R. Tolkien · 1984novella

More like this

This is the earliest surviving version of the tale later known as Beren and Lúthien, telling of the mortal man Beren's love for the elf-maiden Tinúviel and the impossible task her father sets him to win her hand. Published in The Book of Lost Tales, Part Two and edited by Christopher Tolkien, it shows his father's central Middle-earth love story still taking its first, rougher shape.
