Perdita Finn, Suzanne Selfors, Gitty Daneshvari, Shannon Hale, Lisi Harrison, Misty von Spooks, unknown, Adrianna Cuevas, Erin Soderberg, Heather Alexander, Lisa Shea, Sophie Finn, Dean Hale, Ellie Rose, Gina Gold, Margaret Green, Stacia Deutsch & Tiffany Schmidt · 15 series · 48 novels · 10 short stories · 3 collections · 2010–2024
New Salem High has a dress code problem: the daughter of Frankenstein's monster has bolts, the sea monster's daughter has scales, the werewolf sheds, and all of them are supposed to blend in with the normies. Monster High turns the standard teenage terror inside out — the thing that marks you as a freak is inherited, visible, and, once you stop apologising for it, the best thing about you. Down the road, in a second school built on the same joke, the children of fairy tales are handed the story their parents lived and told to sign for it. Both shelves are here. Lisi Harrison opened Monster High with the ghouls of New Salem and the long negotiation over whether to unhide; Gitty Daneshvari carried on through Ghoulfriends Forever; Shannon Hale built Ever After High around Raven Queen, who refuses to inherit her mother's villainy, and Apple White, who very much wants her happily ever after. Around the novels sit diaries, junior novelisations, chapter books, the Once Upon a Twist fairy-tale flips, and the crossover stories where the two schools finally collide. Expect bright, fast, pun-loaded prose and clique politics played at full volume, with something real underneath about fitting in and being told in advance who you are supposed to become. It reads young and knows it. Start with Monster High for the monsters and the school, with The Storybook of Legends for destiny and rebellion; the diaries and junior novels are for readers already inside the joke.

47 novels · 9 short stories · 1 collection
✦ Curated by the Loreful team
2 works not in this orderLine by line, not by date: Lisi Harrison's four original novels first, then the Ghoulfriends quartet that runs beside them, then Shannon Hale's Ever After High trilogy and the crossover that puts both schools in one book, then the modern relaunch. Everything after that is tie-in material — diaries, novelisations of the animated specials, chapter books, readers — kept in its own line and in publication order, because none of it is written to be read in sequence with the novels.
